Job description
  • Responsible for product definition, delivery timing, project cost and quality of new product development projects
  • Coordinates the different activities required to bring an Idea to First Customer Shipment stage; stays responsible until full compliance with project objectives is reached
  • Assists Marketing in translating ‘Statement of Market Requirements’ into detailed ‘Product Engineering Specification’; is capable of formulating different business options with different performance, technical feasibility, product & project cost, quality and timing
  • Ensures that the cross-functional development process is properly applied thus ensuring that new solutions meet customer expectations;  works therefore together with Marketing, Sales, R&D, Operations, Service, Legal, supporting functions, external partners
  • Applies relevant tools and methodologies to meet project objectives
  • Tracks progress (time, cost, quality)  according to plan and initiates corrective actions where necessary; manages risks; provides project status updates; raises critical project issues to senior management
  • Prepares and chairs PPC meetings; defends gate transitions
  • Resolves project priority conflicts with functional R&D heads; escalates where necessary
  • Builds a proper understanding of the customer and the competitive environment
  • Contributes to fine-tune/improve the cross-functional development process e.g. to reduce Time to Market; externally benchmarks its performance; sets a standard of excellence; works  therefore together with her/his colleague Project Managers
  • Contributes to product roadmap definition, portfolio planning, yearly budgeting and forecasting activities
  • Reports to the Program Manager and is based in Lier (Belgium).
  • Master in Engineering, preferably Mechanics, Electronics, Electro-Mechanics
  • Minimum 10 years of working experience
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience with Project/Portfolio Management in a high-tech environment ; knowledge of relevant tools and methodologies
  • Solution and results-oriented individual with customer orientation
  • Capable  to be at the head and to enthuse a team of specialists, as well as to find the right balance between risk and target performance
  • Control a team on deliverables
  • Able to coach and motivate a team
  • Able to bridge the gap between business needs and R&D
  • Sets priorities, has a strong focus on deliverables and people skills
  • Is open minded, has strong analytical skills
